Boscombe hosts two market days, every week of the year. The market days are the busiest in the town, and the market is considered an essential part of the attraction to Boscombe.
In the Mary Portas report on High Streets presented to the Government, a ‘national market day’ was suggested as a means of re-energising High Streets and in conjunction with the National Federation of Market Traders this has resulted in a two week period in June and July being declared ‘Love Your Local Market’ fortnight.
Boscombe market wants to play its part, and in order to draw more footfall and to provide local traders with more opportunity have decided to operate a special promotion during ‘Market fortnight’ from 23rd June to 7th July 2012. During this time the council are offering ‘special pitch fees of only £10.00 per stall per day for new traders and local business who may want to join in the ‘special market days’. They are also arranging children’s entertainment for the days involved and a package of publicity and advertising is being created.
The whole idea is to enable local businesses to join in and use the market as a means of not only selling items on the day, but also letting people know more about local businesses and get people circulating around the area with a view to increase trade. You might get the bug to become a longer term trader on your local market!
